  Autumn Glory!

Nothing beats an Indian Summer to introduce a glorious autumn. There is an abundance of colour and millions of leaves are blowing in the wind, but there’s also the stillness of pearly cobwebs, cheerful chestnuts and glowing bonfires. The third season of the year offers an interesting choice in selling opportunities, like Halloween (October 13) and All Souls’ Day (November 2), the traditional Chrysanthemum highlight of the year. To celebrate the season a Top 10 of Best Songs of Autumn, arranged to inspire you.

When All Is Said and Done
When the summer's over and the dark clouds hide the sun, neither you nor I'm to blame when all is said and done (ABBA)
A smart and simple still life of fluffy, raceme and santini Chrysanthemums in a sturdy and robust shape that fits the season. The large flower heads create an interesting contrast against the smooth horn and a few brightly coloured Chrysanthemums are true eye-catchers in this composition that is both budget-friendly and easy to make.

  Autumn Almanac
Friday evenings, people get together, hiding from the weather (The Kinks)
Take all that autumn glory, swishing and swaying among the trees, and bring it inside for a little piece of indoor genius. This arrangement is surprisingly easy to put together and makes for a spectacular conversation piece, with wonderful opportunities for Halloween. A wreath of fir cones is followed by a crown of Chrysanthemums. The straight branches offer support and structure to highly held flaming flowers. Remove the green leaves to make the arrangement transparent, like a forest after the first storm of autumn.

 Scarborough Fair
 Simon and Garfunkel)
A harvest festival of fluffy, raceme and santini Chrysanthemums in the distinctive colours of autumn. Using different types of the same flower creates a lively impression, like the wind playing with loose leaves. The chestnut burrs add an exiting robust but charismatic statement to this arrangement.

  California Dreaming
All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey, I've been for a walk on a winter's day (The Mama’s and the Papa’s)
Winter may still be a long time away, but brown (and gold, red and orange!) leaves are present aplenty, to be used to your liking. Combined with strong and voluminous Chrysanthemums in oasis they make a beautiful bag of autumn filled fun, that sends a strong and commercially interesting message to clients: ‘take me with you!’

 September Song
And the days grow short, when you reach September. When the autumn weather, turns the leaves to flame (Kurt Weill)
It seems to be artfully arranged by wind force eleven: fine feathers and colourful leaves are tied together to make an expressive collar that reflects in the shiny vase. From the centre a playful and luxurious bouquet rises, with the kind of quiet dignity that goes well with All Souls. Using different varieties of Chrysanthemums offers great opportunities to vary with appealing structure, stirring contrasts and enchanting colours.

  Autumn Leaves
But I miss you most of all my darling, when autumn leaves start to fall (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IDUxk9sSXI)
Maroon, olive, orange and red combined with the kind of deep purple that reminds you of glowing heather on a beautiful autumn day, make a pretty and strong statement. By arranging the zantedeschia in a circular style and adding curly straw this bouquet seems to be swept away by an invisible little twister.

Who Knows Where the Time Goes?
Across the purple sky, all the birds are leaving, but how can they know it's time for them to go? (Sandy Denny)
Versatile and playful arrangement that offers excellent chances to use sweet little glasses as vases and work with all kinds of Chrysanthemums to make the best match. Like these gloriously exuberant flowers that seem to yell ‘fantastic autumn!’ all the time. Add a few purple feathers and it’s like the heather blooms, right on the kitchen table. A great idea for Halloween: hide some sweets between the glasses.

  October Road
Deep down home, October road, and I might like to see that little friend of mine (James Taylor)
Home Sweet Home with this compact, short cut arrangement of various Chrysanthemums in yellow with flaming leaves. Add a few berries and rose-hips for good measure: the round and fan like forms complement each other and make for great filling.

 Rose Hip November
Autumn I'll remember, gold landing at our door, catch one leaf and fortune will surround you evermore (Vashti Bunyan)
Thanks to the endless choice in varieties and colour a mono bouquet of Chrysanthemums is never dull. Every shape is different, put together there’s still unity all-over. A fine example is this warm, radiant and fierce autumn arrangement, in shades of green and yellow, all the way to Indian Summer red.

  Nightswimming
Nightswimming, remembering that night, September's coming soon (R.E.M.)
Elegant and intriguing end-of-summer, going-on-autumn arrangement. Just a hint of sky blue, between the brown, chocolate, crimson, firebrick, purple, gold and sienna of autumn. This piece is built with Chrysanthemums and other complementary flowers around a bleached bit of bark, that’s like a little souvenir of summer, getting a second life.
