British actress and designer Sadie Frost is so fond of Chrysanthemums she has given this hardy flower a star spangled makeover, by designing an exclusive bag to brighten up your daily shop. It features an ingenious little pocket designed to keep your flowers safe, making it even simpler for you to pick up a bunch of Chrysanthemums – the everyday luxury that you really can afford. Sadie’s striking design was inspired by the lively atmosphere the flowers give to her home. “There’s something so cheerful about chrysanthemums,” she says. “They come in so many funky colours that you’re spoilt for choice in the way you can style them. The best part is that they’re a little treat that’s totally guilt free. For just a few pounds you can really brighten up your home”. The bag is only available in Great Britain through www.justchrys.com, all profits will benefit the Hepatitis C Trust.

Since Chrysanthemum is fresh and absolutely fabulous, it’s no wonder she’s considered Floral’s Next Top Model in the world of fashion and beauty. Dutch designer Tom Sebastian, a stylist to the stars, recently launcheded his collection for Germany QVC, one of the most well known home shopping channels in the world. The presentation was all dressed up with Chrysanthemums by the Dutch team of 2Dezign and floral stylist Miranda ter Voorde. Theme of the day was of course ‘stars’, a shape that suits Chrys well. ‘The flower has gained a new fan in me,’ says Sebastian. ‘Versatile, sparkling and modern – I couldn’t have wished for a better companion for the collection.’

Hundreds of Chrysanthemums brightened up the windows of Dutch fashion house Maison de Bonneterie. So why was everyone tickled pink? The start of Giro d’Italia, one of cycling’s Grand Tours, in Amsterdam. Shocking pink, bisque, fuchsia, magenta, pastels and a little bit of lime made sure ‘Giromania’ was as fashionable as possible. Chrysanthemum did well in voluminous arrangements that blended the size of the flower with its unique and sprightly patterns. It’s not the first time JustChysanthemum and the Bonneterie caused a sensation. In 2008 the whole first floor of the shop was dressed with Artist Pink Improved. This Chrysanthemum inspired the haute couture dress of designer Edwin Oudshoorn that caused a sensation at Fashion Week that year.

Every year the Spanish town of Girona celebrates a unique spring festival: Temps de Flor. The old part of the city is decorated all over with flowers and many works of art are being recreated in flowers. Last year the Chrysanthemums design in the Torre Gironella by Spanish floral artist Xaviera Lloveras was such a success, he had been asked to reprise his work. Besides the Torre Gironella he now also dressed the Iglesia de Sant Felix with ‘Mums’. The festival was held for the 55th time and attracts as much as 700.000 visitors every year, including the Spanish royals. The Chrysanthemum designs are always one of the highlights of Temps de Flor.

Chrys’ quality may be a classic, but its beauty can be really contemporary when it comes to innovative floral arrangements. This was most definitely the case at Germany’s trade fair IPM. Top stylists and Chrys’ Ambassadors Julia Heller, Sarah Marx and Oliver Ferchland showed designs that were both artistically and commercially interesting, under the helm of Manfred Hoffman. Other professional Chrysanthemum lovers like Helen Jamieson from Great-Britain, Tim van Leipsig from Holland and Russian Alexander Bermyakov also showed off their talent for using the flower like you’ve never seen before. Together they made La Chrys the sparkling focus for three enticing lifestyle themes. The trend for 2010 is to really use the unique colours and shapes of Chrysanthemum to show off its modern and expressive appeal.

Multi-coloured, sweet stripes or plain yellow and white, but in an extraordinary shape. Chrysanthemum is always on the move, developing new and enchanting varieties. Among the novelties of this spring is Raisa, a rich spray Chrys in yellow and reddish orange, with a bright green centre. Also new in this category is Potemkin, a three-colour spray Chrysanthemum with huge, dense flowers in white and pink.
New to Team Santini is Fox - a unique combination of bronze and salmon, with a feisty green heart. The stems of this spray Chrysanthemum are evenly spread, a big plus for bouquets and floral arrangements. Another new Santini is the very delicate Warmley. Its flowers are characterized by contrasting pink and white striped petals in combination with a bright green heart. Warmley is robust and perfect for mixed bouquets.
And then there’s Boula, a pompon shaped Chrysanthemum with an excellent vase-life and strong, firm flowers. Boula Yellow is the yellow mutant of this variety, which has the same strong points. The main advantage of Boula is that it can also be grown well during winter. Good news then that these flowers will be available all year round.

To show stylists, interior designers and other key influencers the contemporary charisma of Chrysanthemum, the flower made a cracking entry at trade fair Ambiente in the Messe Frankfurt. Edelman Chrys proved to be a leading lady in funky arrangements inspired by Dining, Living & Giving. The flower stole the show in innovative table pieces that became instant ‘conversation pieces’ and prompted the desired ‘I want that!’ reaction as a present. ‘Living’ was also right up Chrys’ alley. Sophisticated arrangements with a funny twist, and provoking compositions made it clear that Chrysanthemum is the way to go, in the future of living a rich, happy and stylish life.
